Our Mission

The mission of the Mangold Music Foundation is to gift musical instruments combined with music education to children hospitalized with Cancer, as well as to create music programs for children who, as a result of school and community wide financial challenges, would not otherwise have access to instruments or music education.

Testimonials

“If I were to rank the impactful experiences I have had at Children’s Hospital at Montefiore, watching Charlie teach a little boy in isolation how to play a ukulele would be at the very top. I will never forget the smile on the little boy’s face and the pure joy in his eyes. Also, we do not currently have a music therapist on staff. As we continue our search for funding, the donations and in-person lessons from the Mangold Foundation really fill that void for our child life program and our pediatric patients."

notes from the team

Hello all.

Notes from Chip’s Mom… July, 2020

I’ve seen on TV some Mothers of news commentators saying a few words on camera about their sons and I thought maybe I could do that for MMF without the cameras … (First of all Charlie, as you know him, has always been Chip to his family as his Grandfather, Father and Uncle were all named Charles and confusion often reigned.) Chip picked up a guitar when he was young (8-9) started to play and he never stopped. His creativity spread to song writing, recording, organizing a band that played several spots in Greenwich Village, NYC. When Chip inaugurated MMF and started changing hospital life by visiting cancer-stricken children, helping them play songs on his guitar and singing with them – what a natural and caring togetherness began! When Chip saw the sadness in a child’s eyes when he left with his guitar – a new idea screamed out and that was to donate to the hospitals, guitars on which the kids could strum their own music. Eventually smaller ukuleles replaced the guitars because of the size. The Foundation became an incredible vehicle for adding some joy to children’s hospital stays. Chip continued to put on the scrubs and visit as many patients as possible – playing his guitar, singing a song, teaching notes, helping to bring smiles to the kids. And along the way, something happened to the MMF founder and president – he learned that he could make a difference by sharing his love of children and music. And who knows? Hopefully any one of the many children whose lives Chip has touched may also choose music as their lifetime companion! MMF gives each child a chance for that friendship.
